Skehana is a small rural community in North East Galway. It is known as
"the half-parish of Menlough". It is a Community of about 270 families and, thankfully, this number is once again growing, having been in decline for the past 50 years. The Community Infrastructure includes a Community Centre,
R.C. Church, National School, A Public House, A Credit Union, A Super Market which also supplies Hardware & Agricultural Supplies, A Garage with a Main Dealership & A Photography Studio.

In the past it has been said that "Skehana is a small village in the middle of nowhere" but as we are situated only 18 miles from Galway City, 17 miles from Loughrea, 10 miles from Athenry, 20 miles from Ballinasloe, 13 miles from Tuam, 23 miles from Roscommon Town, 28 miles from Athlone and indeed only 2.5 hours from Dublin on a fairly modern good road, we, as a Community like to think, and indeed we believe, that we are a small community based in the middle of where it all happens. Yet we are safely away from the hustle and bustle of the modern busy lifestyle. Broadband is now available in Skehana via a Wireless System supplied by Airwire, Kinvara. A state-of-the art water system is currently in the design and build stage for the whole parish and this is expected to be complete and operational by 2009.

Skehana and its surroundings are well served by post offices, transport services, courier and delivery services, Galway Airport ( only 15 miles away), Banks, technical services, etc. It is an area that is great to live in, crime free due to an excellent Garda service. Over the past number of years the Galway County Council in partnership with the local Community have  made great strides in upgrading the area by road widening and maintainence, a Public Lighting Programme and many more improvements which are still in progress and ongoing in some of the Villages within our Community.

We are delighted to let the world know that we are a growing and active Community. Welcome again and thank you for visiting our Web Site and feel free to visit us again at anytime.
